Instead Of She Sheds, People Are Building Wine Shacks In Their Yards

It has been nearly a year since anyone has truly been able to have a night out at the pub. Some people who were missing their regular happy hour spot decided to forgo their backyard shed and instead turn it into their very own, at-home wine shacks. (1)

Instead of using their sheds for storage, they are converting them into these brilliant, beautiful little backyard, outdoor bars. The best part is that you can make your wine shack into any style you want it to be. Whether you’re into old Irish Pubs or upscale New York City cocktail bars, you can make your shed-turned-wine-shack anything you want it to be.

How to Turn Your Shed Into a Wine Shack

If the decision is yes, you need to put in place certain measures to ensure that the bottles will always be kept in the proper conditions. These are (2):

  • Light
  • Temperature
  • Humidity

Wine shacks, or at least the part inside where you plan on storing the wine, must be consistently cool, with low lighting and moderate humidity. Without these correct conditions, all of your wine will go off before you ever get the chance to enjoy it. (3)

This means you must install high-quality insulation and a vapor barrier, as well as a temperature control system. Wine should always be kept at about 55°F (13C) and humidity of 50%-70%. (2)

Wine is highly UV-sensitive, so all bottles should be kept in an area that sees as little natural light as possible. Lastly, you’ll want to make sure that your wine shack has a proper security system and a solid lock on it, so none of your precious bottles go missing.

Without a doubt, your wine shack is going to be a hit with your friends, family, and neighbors once it’s safe to gather in groups again. Take this as an excuse to get a little bit extra with your interior and exterior design – who knows, maybe at-home wine shacks will become so popular you’ll never want to go to the bar ever again!
