It’s pretty common knowledge that a dozen means 12. Whether we’re talking about eggs, cookies, or pairs of shoes, if you say you have a dozen, you have 12. According to the woman in this TikTok video, this is not the case. She says a dozen donuts means 50 and refuses to accept any less.
Woman Believes A Dozen Donuts Means 50
TikTok user @princess__natt shared a video of an interaction she saw while at her local Dunkin Donuts. The video features an obviously upset woman complaining about the number of donuts she was receiving after ordering a dozen. (1)

The woman in question, with her mask pushed down below her nose and mouth, is complaining to the poor cashier that “a dozen donuts means 50, not 12.” (1)
“Five-zero. That’s what a dozen means, not twelve!” she complains. (1)
With a line forming behind her as she stands stubbornly demanding 38 more donuts, the confused cashier struggles to comprehend what the woman asks of her. (1)
“I need more!” the woman bellows. (1)
The cashier continued to be nice, despite the fact that the woman questioned her ability to understand English. (2)

How Do You Not Know What A Dozen Means?
The most incredulous part of this video is not the way in which the woman is speaking to the Dunkin Donuts employee, but the fact that she genuinely believes that a dozen donuts means 50.

Commenters question whether she thinks that a dozen in general means 50, or perhaps maybe, for some odd reason, she thinks that a dozen means 50 only for donuts. Was she hoodwinked as a child? Did a trusted adult lead her astray? Or are there more people out there who don’t know the quantity of a dozen?
It would be more understandable if she didn’t know what a baker’s dozen was (by the way, it’s 13), but this seems pretty straightforward.
After all, many everyday items are sold in dozens that she has surely bought in the past. These include:
- Eggs
- Flowers/Roses
- Pencils
- Disposable cups
- Donuts
Maybe it was her first time buying them on her own?
If there are two things that this video showcases, they are:
- Always be kind to people, and
- Stay in school so you can learn what a dozen means in a classroom instead of while being recorded in a Dunkin Donuts 30 years later.
