A social media influencer was recently slammed in the gym, and online, for wearing body paint as part of a “social experiment.” However, her findings aren’t surprising given her choices violated various health codes.
A Body Painted Content Creator

Natalie Reynolds is a social media influencer and TikTok content creator as one half of the couple, Zach and Natalie. The TikTok channel has over 350,000 followers, who enjoy watching the couple play pranks on each other and engage in trending couple’s challenges.
In December of 2023, Natalie posted a clip on Twitter, now X, in which she wore body paint to the gym and filmed the responses. However, many people including fellow gymgoers were quick to point out the many flaws of her actions.

Policy Violations

For instance, it’s against gym policy for anyone to film while in the gym, as pointed out by the other person in the video. Meanwhile, he notes that body paint is the bigger issue. “If you don’t have clothes on, you need to be out of here, ma’am,” he said.
The Internet Responds to Body Paint

Unsurprisingly, the internet was shocked by the content creator’s decision to wear body paint to the gym. One person commented it was “indecent exposure,” while another pointed out it was “unsanitary.”
“That dude was 100 percent right,” a third person wrote. “He called out your degenerate behavior and you played the victim.” Another added: “And the guy is right. Imagine a man walking around the gym like this, he would be kicked out and banned for life.”
While a fourth wrote: “Gym is to work out not go to show off painted clothes. She should be banned for life.” Lastly, a final person stated they’re “sick of influencers, walking around with security thinking you’re untouchable.”
Responding to Body Paint Backlash

Natalie responded to the body paint backlash later that day. “Why [is] everyone acting like I was naked lmao,” she wrote. “The amount of women who wear pants up the ass at the gym… This is nothing bad at all.” She added: “So a guy YouTuber makes a video just like this but when I paint myself everyone is acting like the world is ending. Let me get my gains and shredded in peace pls.”
The Beauty of Body Paint

While going to the gym, wearing only body paint isn’t a great idea, the art of body painting can be extraordinary and beautiful. For example, Trina Merry is a body painter in New York. She’s combined her passion for nature, art, and photography to create astounding images that capture people without clothes. Rather, they’re covered head to toe in body paint, with colors that match surrounding landscapes.

Escaping to Nature

Her journey began when she was struck by lightning in 2006. She found refuge in Yosemite, away from electrical currents buzzing through cities, as they caused her significant discomfort. However, she was inspired to create. As a result, she combined her passions to create “the illusion that our reality is a two-dimensional space. She is a multi-media artist utilizing the ancient medium bodypaint in a contemporary manner with her photography, performance, installation, video, and digital art,” according to her website.
Capturing the Natural

Since then, she has captured numerous naked subjects in touch with nature, and covered in body paint, “as she merges the human form seamlessly with landscapes, architecture, and cultural symbols, exploring themes of identity, unity, and activism,” her webpage continues.
Although Reynolds’ “social experiment” was unsavory for many fans, noting how social media influencers feel some entitlement, body painting is an incredible, intricate, and time-consuming art form. Furthermore, as always, anything can become good or bad, depending on the context of the situation. Merry has highlighted some incredible wonders through her body paint art, both in nature and in the beauty of the human body.
