Are you ready for this? Tyler Perry is letting the world know it is getting a brand new Madea movie very soon, and we just can’t wait! We have been huge Madea fans since her first appearance all the way back in 1999. The character was first introduced in a play onstage, titled “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” and has taken the world by storm ever since. Can you say ‘Hallelujer?’
It was around 2005 when the character really hit it big and took the world for a joy ride. The gun-totting granny shocked audiences and left them laughing in the aisles wanting more. According to Variety, Perry has launched Madea into the chart-toppers of the film industry. Over $1 Billion dollars have been made over the course of the 11 films in the Madea franchise.
Madea will be Joining the Newest Netflix Premiers
It was on Tuesday this week when Tyler Perry announced on his Instagram that Madea would be coming out of retirement. While the video started out with Tyler Perry using his original voice, it quickly became Madea who took over and informed us of this new Netflix special. You can watch the hilarious struggle between personas HERE. According to Perry, he planned on phasing the character out of his movies as he didn’t want to continue to play Made for years to come. But something changed his mind.
“Hey, guess what’s happening?” he says. “Madea’s coming to Netflix. We need to laugh, man; too much is going on in the country. We need to laugh, so I was done, but she’s coming back. Madea on Netflix. I can’t wait.”

We can’t wait either. According to Perry, this project has secretly been in the works since last August, and after “Madea’s Farewell Tour,” he wasn’t going to do any more Madea roles. His mind changed when he received the Showman of the Year award in 2020. It was shortly after this when Perry had a groundbreaking moment of clarity.

“I was done with Madea, completely done with it.” “But as I’ve been looking at the state of the world — and just before the pandemic started to break the country — and the amount of joy and laughter that it (the Madea character) brought to so many people, that’s what I think is missing. We need that laughter and that joy.”

The New Madea Special
Perry is planning on the project being ready for release by 2022. It will be shot on location at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Ga. Michelle Sneed is head of production and will be the executive producer alongside Perry for this special.
It has been nearly 2 full decades of the loveable sassy grandma bringing the world some satirical and hilarious hijinks and we are certainly ready for more. “A Madea Homecoming” will be written and directed by Perry in this 12th, and possibly final installment of the franchise.
