A dog is truly a man’s best friend. But one can always claim that dogs are attached more to humans when the latter are kids. And well, if you ever had a best friend in school, they would never let you face a timeout alone- so why would your dog? A photo that went viral in 2020 did show a giant mastiff joining his human friend- a 3-year-old boy in a timeout.
The boy, Peyton Smith, was given a timeout by his Ohio mom Jillian Smith- after he had fought with his elder sister Ryleigh. When the youngest in the family decided to stand through a timeout, Dash, the English mastiff puppy of the family, soon joined him. While Peyton obediently stayed through timeout with his head against the wall, Dash was close by and had his head in Peyton’s hands. The candid photo, clicked by his mother, went viral almost immediately on Facebook, with 48,000 shares and thousands of comments flowing around.
Giant Mastiff Joined 3-Year-Old During Timeout
In an interview with Fox News, the mother responded, “Seeing the two in timeout was adorable, it really showed their relationship together, two peas in a pod, or sidekicks, as Peyton would put it. I’m still in shock that their photo went viral and how much people are enjoying it. Especially from many different countries.” Jillian also expressed her gratitude that the classic childhood picture was resonating with so many people around the world.
Jillian had initially captioned the picture with- “When you’re in time out but your best pal won’t let you serve your time alone.” Another commenter went on to state, “Precious! Looks like a Normal Rockwell painting!” Yet another user mentioned, “Truest of love.” According to a press release in 2020, Dash was a 6-month-old Giant Mastiff that could grow up to around 230 pounds. Although, to Smith and her family, he was the ‘gentle giant’ pup that her son was absolute best friends with. She stated, “Peyton dresses Dash up in superhero costumes and they act out fight scenes. I don’t think Dash understands what’s happening, but he allows Peyton to do whatever.”
This timeout story definitely reminded a lot of people about their own pets. One user narrated, “I’m 60 and this brings back a lot of memories. As a kid, my brother and I would get into trouble and mom would send us to the corner for our timeouts, and our dog Tuffy would always join us as we stood there. If dad chewed us out for something we did wrong, he would stand in front of us taking the scolding too. He really was the best friend two boys could ever have wanted.”
