Subway Employee Works With Baby In A Harness On His Chest, And People Have Opinions

Having a newborn kid is not exactly the easiest thing in the world, especially for working parents who do not get enough maternity or even paternity leave, for that matter. A Subway employee took the bring-your-child-to-work day to another level of cuteness by strapping an infant to his chest while working. A newborn child was attached to his hip, or rather his chest, all day. He gathered much attention as he assembled people’s sandwiches while bonding with the baby simultaneously.

Subway Employee with Infant

Two people decided to visit their local Subway for a sandwich. Upon arrival, they noticed the man behind the counter had a rather special bundle strapped to his chest. He had come to work that day with his infant child in a baby carrier that kept them both tightly connected. He was building sandwiches for customers while his child hung out with him. According to Cleveland Clinic, this type of parenting for infants, especially premature babies, is called Kangaroo caring. It is extremely effective for deepening the bond between you and your baby.

The person posted it to TikTok, and it went viral. Many people were intrigued by the scene from a Subway, which undoubtedly has strict regulations being such a popular franchise. It triggered a debate about the high expectations those working parents have to deal with when they have a newborn child.

One person wrote in the comments section, asking for the Subway employee’s GoFundMe page. “He needs help,” It read. The poster then wrote back revealing that she was in fact the infant’s mom, and the man in the TikTok video is a friend of hers that loves her son. “I’m actually the single mom. The guy in the Subway video is a friend/old coworker who adores my son,” she commented.

Can We Normalize This?

Despite the big reveal that the man was not the father of the baby, the mom is no longer a Subway employee. Many people were still adamantly writing in the comments section their approval for him strapping the child to his chest while he works. So many parents must be in this position and are forced to leave their babies at home with their stay-at-home mom, a nanny, or a daycare. The baby in the viral TikTok looks very happy in his pouch. There was no sign that the baby was uncomfortable, and babies tend to scream and cry when they are not happy.

There was an abundance of people asking for this to be normalized. “Can we normalize this?” someone asked. “There shouldn’t have to be a choice between taking care of the child and making money to care for the child.” Another person wrote: “If I saw this at my local subway I would not be bothered. Sometimes childcare falls through.”

A fellow Subway employee wrote in the comments of their approval. “You do what you have to do to make a living. I give this man the ultimate respect, I am a subway employee and this guy needs to be on undercover boss.”

Then, one person wrote: “I genuinely want to fight anyone that has a problem with this. It is hard to find affordable//GOOD childcare. He’s working and being a parent.” And lastly, someone commented: “Wish this was real, so many single moms can’t work because they have no one to watch their baby.”
