Nursing homes for the old and ill are not usually the most lively of places. The residents are preparing for the next chapter that comes after this life, depending on their belief system. Nurses try their best to lighten the mood by organizing fun excursions or guest performers. One nursing home in Taiwan thought they booked the ideal act the entertain their residents. Although, at the end of the day, they were made to issue an apology after a video of the performance went viral on Facebook.
Nursing home made questionable choices
The residents of The Taoyuan Veterans Home rarely get any excitement in their lives. Many of them are bound to wheelchairs, and drag along oxygen tanks wherever they go. The nurses who care for them were looking for a performer of some kind to help lift their spirits. However, this time round, they decided to spruce things up a bit. In short, they hired an adult entertainer. Yes, the kind that you would usually find at strip clubs or bachelor parties.
A video of the performance went viral on Facebook. It was filmed by one of the nurses at the nursing home. In the video, which was taken last week, you see an exotic dancer, dressed in red lingerie and high heels. The residents were situated in a circle and the dancer was in the middle. She most certainly was not holding back.
The video started with the exotic dancer lying on the ground with her legs in the air and spreads them wide. Following that, she jumped up and proceeded to give one of the residents a lap dance. This was met with a lot of cheering in the background, presumably from the other nurses. The residents who watched clapped in encouragement. everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Then, the dancer started to twerk on the man’s lap, and he seemed to be enjoying himself. Usually, when someone gropes a stripper, they get thrown out of the club. But, this dancer did not seem to mind when the man she was dancing for groped her breasts.

An issued apology
The nursing home received a sizeable amount of criticism for its choice of entertainer. In other words, not everyone thought it was the best idea for elderly people to have half-naked dancers. Many were bound to be concerned for the residents with heart problems. A spokesperson for the nursing home issued an explanation and an apology. They mentioned it was of pure intentions, as all they wanted was to lift the spirits of the residents. “The intention of the event was to entertain residents and make them happy. We are very sorry for the offence that was caused,” said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson went on to explain that the nursing home celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival, otherwise known as the Moon Festival every year. The previous year they had to cancel the festival because of COVID-19-related issues. This year, they wanted to make up for that, and they decided on an adult entertainer.
Many people who saw the viral video comment their disapproval. One person said, “Really! Why would they think that something like this would be appropriate for everyone in this audience?” While another said, “This is stupid and ridiculous. How about treating them well and with dignity, respect and honour.”
Meanwhile, other people thought the nursing home made a great choice in performers. One approving person said, “Don’t know, Grandpa seems to be enjoying himself. It also seems that everyone else was clapping their hands. I say, let them enjoy themselves.” Then, another person followed that sentiment and said, “God forbid these men get one last interaction with a scantily-clad woman before their quickly-approaching demise.”
