Remi Bader is a fashion and body confidence influencer. Upon one outing to a ranch to ride some horses, she was made to feel extremely insecure about her weight. The ranch said she was too big and allegedly asked her to leave. She immediately took to social media to bring this to her follower’s attention. She wishes to raise awareness of the weight stigma that curvy people have to endure.
Weight stigma has ranch turning people away
Remi and a bunch of other TikTok influencers decided to go out for the day and ride some horses. Although, upon arrival, Remi was told to leave because she was too overweight to ride the horses. This weight stigma infuriated Remi, as it contradicted her values of body confidence.
Remi has over 2 million followers on her Tiktok account. There she posts videos about clothes she buys online in a realistic review and fights off the weight stigmas of society. Her video about the ranch turning her away was viewed over 1.8 million times. The clip has a text overlay that reads: “Shoutout to Deep Hollow Ranch in montauk for making me leave because I weigh over 240.”
But then, another video involving the incident was posted on TikTok. This time it was an employee of Deep Hollow Ranch who goes by the TikTok handle: @Broudy.Keogh. “When you’re not a fat b—- you can ride at Deep Hollow Ranch,” read the caption of the weight stigma clip. It has since been deleted.

Deep Hollow Ranch apologized for weight stigma
When Deep Hollow Ranch found out about the TikTok video posted by a teenage employee of theirs, they were reportedly shocked. They took to their Facebook page to publicly apologize for the weight stigma used against Remi. They swear the teenage employee did not speak on their behalf, as they do not condone that kind of behavior.
The Facebook post read: “It has come to our attention that a TikTok video was posted regarding the ranch and a teenage employee posted a response that in no way represents nor is aligned with the views that the owners of the ranch hold. We would like to apologize to anyone who this offended and we do not condone or agree with any part of that employee’s video.”
In the comment section, there was a lot of outrage over the weight stigma displayed by the ranch. Many people questioned the authenticity of the apology made by Deep Hollow. Then, one person revealed that the employee who posted the mean video about Remi was in fact their son. “The employee was Broudy Keogh, the son of Patrick and Cate Keogh, owners of Deep Hollow Ranch,” wrote Rebecca Jones. “In an industry that is already hurting to attract new clients and keep the equine industry affordable, this is appalling.”
What is the max weight a horse can carry?
Seeing as the horse ranch turned Remi away due to their weight stigma. Knowing what the experts say on the matter might be a good idea. So, what is the maximum weight a horse can carry on their backs? Well, according to the University of Minnesota Extention, horses can carry up to 20% of their body weight. So, a smaller horse would obviously have to carry a smaller person.
These findings came from a study done in 2008 by a certain Ohio University. The researchers involved got the horse test subjects to carry various loads from 15% of their body weight, then 20%, 25%, and 35%. In short, they settled on a light-riding horse being able to carry 20% of its body weight. Hopefully, this can enable ranches to work around the weight stigmas of society in the future.
