However, their 18 years of marriage will soon come to an end, as Christine has filed for divorce. The couple’s story began when they met at a golf tournament in 1998. Even though there was a large age difference, the two felt sparks from the get-go.
Their relationship had some ups and downs, and they briefly split in 2002. However, they managed to sort things out and they got married on Kevin’s ranch in 2004. Together, Costner and Baumgartner have three children: Cayden, born in 2007, Hayes, born in 2009, and Grace, born in 2010.

Christine and Kevin Costner’s Divorce
Even though Kevin Costner’s divorce surprised him, he was aware that his almost ex-wife had been unhappy in their marriage. According to reports, he was hardly at home when he was shooting, and this created an air of frustration for Christine. She just wanted her husband to be at home more often so he could spend some quality time with his family. In particular, his children. A source revealed to PEOPLE magazine that “Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home. During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her.”

Kevin Costner’s divorce was likely triggered by his role in the film, Horizons. Kevin had dedicated himself to the character and was away for quite some time. Now, his wife, Christine, is adamant that she doesn’t want him to take on another movie. The source said: “Christine doesn’t want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn’t happy about it.”
Christine Baumgartner seems resentful that Kevin Costner’s job is important to him. Allegedly, she has spoken up about the fact that Kevin’s acting takes “precedence” over his family life. “Kevin hasn’t been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand,” says another source to The Entertainment. “All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized. A spokesperson for the actor said in an interview with PEOPLE: “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
Another source and close friend revealed that the divorce is not of his choosing. Moreover, if he could change Christine’s mind, he would. “It was not anything that he wanted or sought,” the source said. “And if he could change the situation, he would.
