Jada Pinkett Smith is writing a memoir

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett have been in and out of the headlines this year. If you don’t remember, during the Oscars earlier this year, Will marched onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock across the face in front of the entire audience, including those watching on their TVs. This was following a joke that Chris made using Jada’s bald head as a reference. Whether he knew of Jada’s struggles with alopecia is unknown.

Even though Will Smith crossed a boundary, Jada still wished for him and Chris Rock to reconcile. “Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile. The state of the world today? We need them both, and we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

Intentions

According to Carrie Thornton, a publisher at Dey Streets, Jada Pinkett Smith intends to clarify any misconceptions made of her by the media. She described how Jada had to manage the expectations of society, as well as her role in the public’s eye. “The world has imposed many labels and narratives on Jada Pinkett Smith. This is down to the realities of our media landscape, but also the roles thrust upon women by culture. At the center of all the speculation and false stories is a woman who, like so many women, has had to reconcile her personhood with the needs of those she loves.”
