No more tours for Dolly Parton

The country singer, Dolly Parton, has decided at the age of 76 to stop touring. She announced her intentions in an interview with Pollstar magazine, and it was a heavy blow for many people who have been fans of her music. “I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then,” said Parton. She lightened the blow by saying she will still perform but no more touring for her. “Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore. I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy.”

Dolly Parton has been no stranger to touring with her music, and her most recent tour saw her perform 60 different shows. However, now she and her husband are getting older, and she wants to spend more time with him. “I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy,” she said. “I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband [Carl Dean]. We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans.”

Dolly and Dean

Carl Dean met his now-wife, Dolly Parton in 1964. It wasn’t a very auspicious location, but Dean was struck by Dolly’s energy and appearance. He told Entertainment Tonight, “My first thought was, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl. My second thought was, ‘Lord she’s good lookin’.’ And that was the day my life began. I wouldn’t trade the last 50 years for nothing on this earth.”

Instead of accepting a first date with Dean, Dolly got him to help her babysit her nephew a few days after their first meeting outside the Laundromat. And now, 56 years later they are still happily married. People wonder why they don’t know more about Dean, but it’s because he prefers the quiet life outside of the spotlight, unlike his wife Dolly Parton.

Dolly managed to convince him to attend a BMI dinner in 1966. According to the interview with Oprah Magazine, dolly said, “So Carl and I got dressed up, he was in a tux, and we drove to the dinner,” she recounted. “We got out and walked up the red carpet and went inside and sat through dinner and the awards.” She added, “After the dinner, Carl turned to me and said, ‘Dolly, I want you to have everything you want, and I’m happy for you, but don’t you ever ask me to go to another one of them dang things again!'”
