Influencer Raises More Than $180,000 For Elderly Walmart Worker To Retire

The financial constraints that have come up at the end of the pandemic have been felt by all. While some of us have chosen to mope about it, an elderly woman has been working round the clock at a local grocery store to make ends meet. The video of her working did go viral on social media- and it definitely captured the hearts of people on the internet. But it was due to the actions of an influence, Devan Bonagura, that her life slowly started changing. When he mentioned that he felt quite bad for her, people started chiming in with donations. Devon also went on to upload a short video of the woman, Nola, while she was at work on the 3rd of November.

In the clip uploaded by the influencer, one can see Nola putting on a Walmart uniform, and sitting in the staff room during the break. The caption that Devan put was, “Life shouldn’t be this hard. I feel bad.” This video started making the rounds of the internet very fast and soon racked up around 26.2 million views. This led to many onlookers suggesting that the video creator should ideally launch a GoFundMe page for the woman. After setting up the page, Devan wrote, “Let’s help Nola retire. Nola works at Walmart and that says enough. Let’s all come together and help.”

Influencer Helps Old Woman Pay A Part Of Her Mortgage With Donations

Apparently, the generosity of the influencer didn’t come without animosity- as he claimed that the giant shopping retail chain had threatened to call the cops if he didn’t take the video, as well as the page down. To this, Devan wrote, “So I told them: ‘Do what you gotta do, because I’m getting this money to this woman one way or another.” The threats from Walmart apparently didn’t faze the content creator as he did find Nola just a day after posting the video and gave her the money he had racked up in just 24 hours.

While giving her the money, the influencer stated, “They saw that you’re a very hard worker, obviously. We are all super proud of you, and we wanted to offer you the $110,000 that has been raised for you.” Nola did accept the money, but also mentioned that she “still had to work until I get the other $70,000 or $60,000 paid off the house.” Nevertheless, this major donation would be making a big difference to the mortgage, saying, “It won’t take long now with all that money.

Interestingly, the woman plans on retiring the moment she has enough money to pay her entire mortgage off- “That’s what’s holding me at work- the house.” However, the GoFundMe page set up for her has raised over $183,000 as of November 15th – which should be enough for her to pay her mortgage off.
