Walmart Worker, 82, Can Finally Retire Thanks to a Stranger Who Raised Over $100K, and His Life Story Gave Us Goosebumps

We go to school so we can get a job. That job will hopefully sustain you throughout life, in all the various phases we inevitably experience. we persevere through it all, hoping we can retire someday and live the rest of our days in peace and comfort. Some get to start earlier in life and travel the world. Others might not be able to afford retirement at all. This was the case for one Walmart employee. He was 82 years old and still working. That is until a stranger came into his life and changed it for good.

Elderly Walmart employee cannot afford retirement

82-year-old Butch Marion has always been a hard worker, and still is to this day. The Navy Veteren was spotted by a complete stranger while working away. In short, this person was struck by his dedication, as it is not often you see someone his age working. Rory McCarty (the stranger) was inspired by the story of another elderly Walmart employee that managed to retire thanks to donations made through TikTok. So, he set up a GoFundMe in Butch’s honor.

I was shopping at Walmart the other day, and was waited on by an 82yr old man named Butch. As a business owner and knowing how hard it’s been to try to find good help for my business. I was astounded seeing this little older man still grinding. Working 8 to 9 hour shifts. Recently seeing a gofundme for a 82 yr old lady working at Walmart on Tik Tok, and seeing they raised money for her to retire for good,” reads the fundraiser description.

Get him off his feet

Rory made it clear that he wants Butch to retire from Walmart so he could relax more, and visit his children in Florida. “I wanted to help this Navy Veteran to live the remainder of his years traveling to see his kids in Florida. Get him off his feet for 8 hrs at a time. And do the things he would love to do that he may not be able to for financial reasons,” he wrote.

Lastly, Rory explained that he will be personally delivering the money to Butch. According to the e fundraiser description, Butch’s daughter gave him permission to withdraw the money. “Every penny will go to Butch. Janette, the daughter of Butch, has confirmed that I can withdraw the funds on behalf of her father and send them outside of GoFundMe,” wrote Rory. “Once that happens, I will be hand delivering Warren Marion (Butch) a cashier check for the full amount given after the Gofundme fee is subtracted.

Another saved Walmart employee

Rory’s inspiration came from Devan Bonagura, a TikTok user, posted a video of a woman he worked with at Walmart. Nola is an elderly woman, who is well passed the general retirement age. Similarly, she too was unable to retire as she had no money to support herself. Devan’s video was captioned: “Life shouldn’t be this hard. I feel bad.

The comments section inspired him to start up a GoFundMe page for her with the intention to raise enough money to help Nola retire. In the description, he wrote a short blurb. “Let’s help Nola retire. Nola works at Walmart and that says enough. Let’s all come together and help,” it read. The fund raiser was closed after it successfully raised over $180,000.
