Being a teacher is one of the most respectable jobs in society today. Everyone marvels at the patience teachers need to educate the youth of today. They may be respected in general society, but that doesn’t always mean they are treated as such in class. This particular teacher was quite young, as she had only just graduated two years prior, and this was her first teaching job. Sally Turner, Miss Turner, was so excited to finally have the chance to put her studies to the test of teaching a class of high school students. However, things did not go as planned.
Love in college
It is not a new story to tell where two people met in college, fell in love, got married, and had kids. The all-American dream. However, this story has a slightly hilarious twist at the end. One that hopefully taught Miss Turner a lesson in making sure to wear appropriate attire while she is in class. She was teaching high school students, and teenagers tend to scrutinize everything. Not to mention, they do not miss anything, so teachers always have to be on their toes.
Sally met the love of her life while she was in college. His name is Ian, and they were taking similar classes to each other as they both wanted to be teachers. This was what attracted her to him, not his name, of course, but his love of education and children. They both believed without a doubt that being informed is the best way forward in life. The day that Ian proposed was one of the happiest days of her life. They had been dating for one and a half years, but it felt just right. she couldn’t imagine spending her life with anyone else.
So, when they graduated, they both set out trying to find jobs as soon as possible. They wanted their lives to start as soon as possible, so having work was at the top of their priority list. Luckily, Sally had received a nursery that paid for her studies, and Ian’s grandparents had paid for his. So, they did not have exorbitant school fees to pay back which made their wedding day seem so much more possible.
Bachelorette shenanigans
One day, Sally had just got home from work, when her best friend, Becks, called her. She and Ian had just dropped the bomb that they planned on eloping during their next school break. They were to fly to Mexico and say “I do.” Her best friend was screaming with happiness, but crying at the same time. She demanded to be allowed to come with as she was meant to be the maid of honor. Laughing, Sally agreed. There was no point arguing.
Next thing she knew, Becks came bursting in through her front door followed by a gaggle of girls, all of whom Sally knew. Becks came right up to her with a champagne flute in her hand, already filled with bubbles, and handed it to Sally. She started to protest, saying she had to work the next day and the school holidays were only a week away. However, Becks refused to take no for an answer. She tipped the flute up so Sally had to take a sip, and told her this was her bachelorette party.
A wild night
All the girls started screaming at once; they sure were excited. Sally decided to give in, realizing this was a right of passage for those getting married. Moreover, her friends went through all this effort. So, she sat back, and let them adorn her in all the lacey bachelorette apparel they had got their hands on. The outfit they chose for her was a bright pink mini-skirt with a lacey white bodice. Finished off with some white garters, because what is a wedding without garters?
They had hired a limousine and everything. Sally was shocked to see how much her friends had splurged on the evening. By the time Sally got loaded into the limo, she was already pretty tipsy. But there was a lot more booze inside the car. All her favorite tracks were loaded into the playlist, and they started singing along immediately.
At about 2 in the morning, Sally suddenly realized she had to go home because she had work the next day. Their driver started the engine, but it wouldn’t budge. The limo had broken down. This was when Sally started to panic, she couldn’t afford to lose her amazing new teaching job. So, she had to get an uber. But, they were in a remote area and the drivers kept dropping her requests because her home was too far away.
Late for class
When Sally got home, she crawled into her bed, fully clothed. Her fiance laughed, he found her drunken slurs endearing. About two hours later, Sally’s alarm went off for work, although she snoozed the first few alarms after only a couple of hours of sleep. On the third ring of her alarm, Sally practically fell out of bed. In her blind panic, she threw a dress on, there was no time to shower. She splashed her face with water and slapped some makeup on. She didn’t look great, but this would have to do.
By the time she got to school, her students were already waiting for her. She hurried inside, gushing out apologies for being late. The class whispered amongst themselves, and Sally thought to herself they must suspect something. She reached for the marker to write the activity for the morning on the board.
She heard some snickering from the students and turned around to see who it was. Annoyed, she turned back and reached her arm up to the whiteboard, and started writing. Suddenly, she heard one of the boys burst out laughing. Sally turned around and asked him why he was laughing. The boy was trying to hide his laughter, to no avail, and said: “Ma’am, I could see your garter.”
Get out!
Sally’s heart sank to the pit of her stomach. She had forgotten to take the white garters her friends had dressed her in the night before. This was so humiliating. The only words she could find were: “Get out, and don’t come back for three days!”
The class went quiet again, all scared to meet the same fate as their classmate. Sally turned around and realized she didn’t add the first instruction for the activity she was writing up. So, she reached up even higher to write it above, only to hear another boy burst out laughing.
Sally whipped around, fuming, and demanded to know what was so funny. The boy couldn’t hold his laughter. she asked him what was so funny, and he said: “Ma’am, I could see both of your garters.”
This was too much for Sally, and her face turned an even deeper shade of red. She yelled: “Get out! And don’t come back for a week! This is absolutely disrespectful.” Sally was now deeply frustrated. When she turned back around, her elbow knocked the board eraser block to the ground, and she bent down to pick it up. As she did, she heard another boy laugh, even louder than the other two put together.
As she turned around, she saw him walking out the door. She asked: “Where do you think you’re going?” He replied with a cheeky look in his eyes: “Ma’am, after what I just saw, I will never graduate from school.”
