Police Called To Deal With ‘Disturbance’ At Bank — A 92-Year-Old Man

A Tiffy Taffy Highlight Story: Sometimes, there are stories that are just too good, too beautiful, or too unbelievable to keep locked away. That’s why we scour the archives and bring some of them back to enjoy again. They may make you smile or shed a tear, but they’re always meant to add a little positivity to your day. This story is from October 2017. Enjoy!

When you hear about the police being called to deal with disturbances, the first reaction always involves asking who was killed. But in this particular situation, the story that took place at a local Bank of America branch in Montebello, California, ended up being quite heartwarming. According to a post that was made on the official Facebook page of the law enforcement division, the Montebello Police spoke about how they “responded to the Bank of American in Montebello regarding a patron who was causing a disturbance”, in September 2017. But what they thought had transpired was completely different from reality.

The post continued, “Upon the officer’s arrival, they discovered that a 92-year-old man was trying to withdraw money from his account; however, his California identification card expired. Per the bank’s policy, because his identification card was expired, they were unable to fulfill his request. The gentleman was upset and the police were called.” Now, some of you might consider calling the police on something so trivial as overkill- but they actually ended up alleviating the situation, while giving the old man the help that he needed.

The Police Officers Made The Old Man Feel Safe In Their Presence- While Maintaining His Dignity

The post mentioned, “Once officers arrived, Officer Robert Josett decided to take the man to the DMV in town to help him renew his identification card. With the assistance of the DMV, his identification card was renewed and he was taken back to the bank at which time he was able to withdraw money from his account. He thanked Officer Josett and went on his way.” The photo which was later uploaded of the man and the officer walking has already been shared close to 40,000 times on the social media platform, and it is quite easy to understand why that is the case.

There were around 20,000 comments which praised the police for not reacting to the situation in a way that would lead to fatalities- and actually responding with compassion and allowing the man to settle into a state of normalcy by easing up the process. One individual commented, “This officer is a Saint! All this Little Grampa wants is to keep his Independence. And the officer helped him in a dignified manner. Good Job Officer!” Another comment reads, “Thank you Officer Robert Josett! You stepped outside the box to resolve the issue. Great to hear the outstanding work done by the MPD.” And finally, another comment stated, “That’s the cops we need. Not the thugs and the fake police stations that are being set up across America. If you don’t believe me, look it up.
