What Happened to ‘Dallas’ Star Patrick Duffy? See Where the Soap Opera Star Is Today

Of all the billions of people in this world, there are some remarkable characters out there. One of them is Patrick Duffy, from the TV series Dallas. After a 43-year marriage to an older woman, the man still talks about his wife as if she were beside him. Let’s look at his career and love life over the many years.

Patrick Duffy’s Career

If you have watched the TV show Dallas at some point in your life, you may remember the character Bobby Ewing, played by Patrick Duffy. Every actor or actress needs a big break, and Dallas was just that for Patrick. Fans of the show clearly loved him, because he starred in almost 300 episodes.

“I left because I had done the show for seven years,” he said in an interview with HuffPost. “My contract was for seven years. It was obviously an ensemble show and I thought if it was ever a time at the height of the popularity of that show that I might be able to launch into something that was more of a single, starring venue, that that would be the time to do it. I left the show and that did not happen — typical Patrick Duffy business decision fiasco.”

After he left Dallas, Patrick Duffy played parts in various movies and series. One was the sitcom Step by Step, which he played with his long-term friend, Suzanne Somers. Then, in 2012, Dallas was said to be revived from its ashes. Patrick was signed on to play the same character, Bobby Ewing.

Married to Carlyn Rosser for 43 years

The Dallas star was known to gush about his dearly departed wife, Carlyn Rosser. She died in 2017, and it took Patrick five months to start speaking about her death. While she was alive, Patrick often spoke about how much he loved her, and he would boast that he got to kiss her every night they went to sleep. “The one I kiss off-camera every night before I go to sleep,” he said.

They first met on a tour bus when Rosser was a 31-year-old ballet dancer. Patrick may have been 10 years younger than her, but that did not stop his attraction. The tricky thing was that it seemed to be mutual, and Rosser happened to be married. She eventually left her husband after 13 years of marriage, and married Patrick in 1974.

Two years after Rosser’s death, Patrick Duffy still considered himself a married man. “I can hear her, I can see her, I know what she would expect of me, and I try and live up to that,” said Patrick to Closer Weekly. “Then, I feel close to her all the time [but] what I miss most is her touch. I still consider myself a married man.”

“Love found me”

Since his wife’s death in 2007 Patrick Duffy did not date anyone for a few years. Then, in 2020, the world went on lockdown, and suddenly they were stuck at home without anything to do. For celebrities, this is not normal. One good thing came out of it because Patrick Duffy met Linda Purl and a romance soon started between them through Zoom.

Patrick Duffy explained how they first started chatting in a group text chat, which eventually grew into three-hour Zoom calls. “It’s a Covid romance. We didn’t sit in the same room for almost four months but we spoke to each other everyday,” said Patrick to Closer. “We kept texting and texting became Facetime and for two and a half months plus we zoomed every night for two or three hours.

Eventually, Patrick could not resist the temptation to meet her in person. One night he ended their call by saying: “See you tomorrow love you.” Then, he said: “The next day we zoomed it was like…”hi”. I got into my car and drove 23 hours to her door step and we’ve never been apart.”

Patrick spoke about how the gifts of love can make you feel. “To look forward to every moment you can be with somebody is a real gift in a relationship. I am stunned every time that I realize this amazing woman loves me. It’s just like, wow!”
