Parrot Falls In Love With Alexa And Keeps Ordering Things From Amazon

We all know how smart African grey parrots are but have you ever heard of or met a parrot who has fallen in love with Amazon’s Alexa? Yes, we are talking about the smart machine that can take orders and follow requests, such as playing your favorite song or adding something to your daily shopping list.

Alexa and Rocco

Well, there is a parrot, and his name is Rocco, and he is undoubtedly the smartest parrot in his neighborhood. In 2018, Rocco was a stray rescued and taken into care by the National Animal Welfare Trust in the United Kingdom. According to the charity, Rocco had an affinity for using foul language. Now, to avoid upsetting any clients that would visit the charity, one of the workers, Marion Wischnewski volunteered to take Rocco home until he could be properly rehomed, this ended up being a foster fail as not only her, but her whole family, including Alexa, fell in love with Rocco and vice versa.

Upon settling into his new forever home, Rocca started to develop what some would call, an unusual habit, he began having daily conversations with Marion’s Alexa. He got so good at learning how the humans interacted with the device that he learned how to request songs and order his favorite food by simply telling her to add it to the shopping list. At one point he had ordered $3 worth of food, namely strawberries and broccoli, from Alexa.

Oops

Now, being the smartest parrot in the neighborhood, Rocco only ordered the things he loves to eat. Namely, items such as raisins, watermelons, broccoli, and ice cream. Even some more arb things like a light bulb and even a kite. When asked about it Marion said

Luckily, we never had the products delivered because we’ve set it up that you have to log on to actually process the order, so we could cancel the items. They chat away with each other all day. Often I come in and there’s music playing. I’ve never had any concerns with Alexa. The whole family uses it as it’s in the main part of the house. I guess that’s why Rocco got used to Alexa because we all talk to it, so he’s just joining in.”

According to Marion, Alexa even talks back to Rocco and plays his favorite music for him like the American band, Kings of Leon. But, since Rocco’s ordering spree Marion has decided to put a password on to Alexa to avoid any future unwanted bills. However, we all know how clever parrots are. We know how easily they are able to imitate the words we humans use in our daily life. “There is always a chance he could learn [the PIN], but so far, he hasn’t,” said Marion.

A love affair you just can’t stop

It’s easy to see why Rocco has fallen for Alexa. She answers his every request, plays his favorite music, and keeps him company during the day. There ain’t no stopping love, even if it is a strange one. Seems that soon Rocco will learn the new pin and the endless hours of chit-chat shall continue.
