During the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial, something unexpected happened. As it turns out, sales for the Depp endorsed Dior Sauvage cologne went up during the trial. Depp is the face of the fragrance- so how the trial would affect sales was sort of unknown. It goes without saying that many around the world followed the six-week defamation spectacle, which took place at the Fairfax County Courthouse and was subsequently streamed live for millions to see.
According to research during preceding sales for the fragrance went up by 50% in a single month.
As stated by the findings which were carried out by Hey Discount, the sales for Dior Sauvage skyrocketed. In fact, even the Google searches for the app increased by 48%. This means that from 823,000 searches in March, it shot to 1.2 million in April. It was around this time that the court proceedings started. The analytics company also reported that TikTok views for the company also increased by 63%. Interestingly, the platform had been completely submerged by videos regarding the trial.
As a result of such incessant searches, the fragrance was named the second most popular in the world.
Some are saying that it was a smart move on Dior’s part to keep Depp as the face of the famous scent, but the brand has not made any official statements about this. As it stands Johnnt Depp is still a part of the campaign. You can see the actor strumming the strings of a guitar with the song ‘Wild Thing’ in the background in a post from Dior’s official Instagram page.
It’s no surprise that Johnny Depp’s fans have an opinion on this. They had been his cheerleading squad for the entirety of the trial, and for the most part, they seem tp praise Dior for keeping him in their campaigns. Here are some of their reactions below.
