Johnny Depp says he felt boycotted after Amber Heard ordeal, has no ‘further need’ for Hollywood

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are still making headlines for their defamation case from years before. Even though the jury was in Johnny’s favor in the end, he was still sitting on the outskirts of Hollywood, with no promise for a future in movies he’d helped franchise. Johnny has since taken a lead role in a French movie and has even gone so far as to say he no longer needs Hollywood.

Johnny Depp Feels Boycotted

Most people will remember the heavily publicized and long-drawn-out defamation case between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. Even though the case only lasted one week, it felt like a few years, as Amber’s op-ed was written in 2018, and the trial only started in 2022. This had a massive impact on both their lives. Johnny Depp was put on hold for roles in big movies, and Amber even had to move to Spain under a pseudo-name as a means to escape the media’s harassment.

Johnny Depp has since not been seen in any of the big Hollywood movies, and his millions of fans that love and adore him as their favorite Captain Jack Sparrow have been mightily disappointed. They wish for him to return to the screens, but Depp has said he feels boycotted from Hollywood. As a result, he has mentioned that he feels “no need” for Hollywood anymore.

In a press conference at Cannes Film Festival, he spoke about his reservations about Hollywood. He was there to promote his latest film, “Jeanne du Barry.” “Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? Well, you’d have to not have a pulse to feel at that point like this was all just a weird joke,” he said. “Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that’s merely a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air… Do I feel boycotted now? No, not at all. But I don’t feel boycotted because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t feel much further need for Hollywood — I don’t know about you.

This is Not a “Come Back

It is not unheard of for celebrities to take a dip in their careers. Many have suffered heartache and loss or suffered at the hands of their addictions. While they healed, they would take a step back from Hollywood. Their fans would then applaud them for returning to the screens, or their stage, calling it their “come-backs.” The same principle has been applied to Johnny Depp. However, Depp finds this a bit strange.

According to him, he never went anywhere, so to him, this is not a “come-back.” In the same press conference at the Cannes film festival, he said: “I keep wondering about the word ‘comeback’ because I didn’t go anywhere. I live about 45 minutes away. Maybe people stopped calling out of whatever their fear was at the time. But I didn’t go nowhere. I’ve been sitting around. ‘Comeback’ is almost like I’m going to come out and do a tap dance — dance my best and hope you approve. That’s the notion. It’s a bizarre mystery.”

He went on to say the whole thing is about conformity. “It’s a very strange, funny time when everyone would love to be themselves, but they can’t because they must fall in line with the person in front of them,” Depp said. “If you want to follow that line, be my guest. I’ll be on the other side.”
