Choosing and Planting Your Succulents

Any good gardener knows that if you want your plants to thrive, you need to plant them correctly.

Even though succulents are quite hardy and versatile, these useful tips will help you ensure your succulents last a long time.

  1. If you live in an area that gets very cold, you need to plant succulents to withstand those temperatures. Sedums and sempervivums are perfect!
  2. Likewise, if you experience extreme heat where you live, agaves, some aloes, and most cacti will be able to tolerate the high temperatures.
  3. Choose succulents according to sun exposure. Not all of them require full sun. If you’re creating a table for indoors, choose a spot near a window that gets around 2 hours of sun per day.
  4. You’d be forgiven for thinking succulents don’t need watering often. Wait for the soil to become dry between waterings so that the roots can breathe.
  5. The soil you use is important. You don’t want your plants sitting in constantly moist soil. Succulents seem to like volcanic sands (pumice and scoria).
  6. Add some pretty rocks and crystals to make your display even more beautiful! [2]
