A gas station in Phoenix is doing the unthinkable. The owner has been selling gas at almost half a dollar less. And this pertains to the prices that have been placed in other cities with the price of gas touching record highs. The owner of Valero Food Mart, Jaswinder Singh, has been selling gas at a regular price of $5.19. Now, one needs to understand that the average price in the city has been about $5.68. Singh has been living in this city for close to two decades. His kids study in the community. And he regularly wakes up at 4 am to work at the store along with his wife.
It is quite interesting to note that the gas owner himself has a lot of expenses to deal with. There are thousands of dollars that he needs to pay in property taxes. He also has to pay insurance payments along with mortgages. But, he still believes in helping out his community. And one can attribute this sentiment to his Sikh religious values. “We teach our children the same thing. If you have something, you have to share it with other people.” Singh further mentions that he is still able to cut his losses as people purchase things from his store. He nevertheless declined to comment if he was selling fuel at cost or less.

Since most of the cars that pass through his gas store aren’t Mercedes, Singh believes this could help everyone. With a lot of customers helping him in the store, he feels grateful. And this has led to him deciding to do something in return for them. “I have to make the money somewhere, someday, right, but not right now. Now it’s time to help people.”
With the war in Ukraine still going on, the price of gas has increased around the world. In the United States, gas prices have managed to reach historic proportions. This came as a result of multiple sanctions placed on oil imports from Russia. The average price of gas in the country settled down to $5 on Friday. But this was entirely due to a slight dip in its demand.
