Woman who moved to UK says Americans would be shocked by English breakfast food

Food is a common source of culture shock. As for this American woman, an English breakfast would be an immense one for her fellow countrymen. In a video on TikTok, Lisa was pointing out things that would “freak” Americans out regarding the UK, when she talked about their breakfast dishes.

She explained that the baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, and “the full English” would absolutely make Americans flip out. She further said the long queues, as well as the British’s long-winded way to acquire a driving license, are other things that Americans would find an issue with.

Differences Between The UK And The US

Alice has been covering the cultural (and climactic) differences between the two countries separated by the ocean for several years. In 2013, she left Atlanta in Georgia to move to Leeds. However, her bashing of the English breakfast has left quite a few of her viewers confused.[1]

To that point, one viewer even turned the commentary around. The commenter said: “I’ve always been super freaked out watching American TV where they eat doughnuts and cake for breakfast?? idk if that’s real or not but its crazy.

What Is A Full Traditional English Breakfast?

To settle this debate, we must first have a clear idea about what actually is an English breakfast. Also called a fry-up, it is usually a hefty and hearty serving found in Ireland and the UK. In fact, they are popular enough to be available 24/7 in the region. The most essential ingredients of the English breakfast are beans, fried bread, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs, back bacon, and eggs.

Sausages are left to the eater’s preference. Back bacon is similar to a slightly smoked extremely thin pork chop. It is usually not crispy. Eggs are usually always sunny-side up. Tomatoes are halved, seared, and seasoned with pepper and salt. They are usually raw and just present to give some color.[2]

Mushrooms usually feature their normal appearance – caramelized and nicely browned. Toast, or perhaps not toast, is a fried piece of bread using oil or butter. Finally, there are the beans which are apparently an absolute must.

So, do these ingredients really seem out of place for a breakfast meal? Let us know in the comments!
