Jonathan Lewis, 32, is a schoolteacher and recently an owner of property in Liverpool, England. But he noticed the boards covering the wall alongside his staircase in his new home. Curious to see what’s inside, Lewis hammered down the wall and found a rag doll with a chilling note tucked under her arm.
Teacher Finds Haunting Note in the Wall of His Home
Lewis was aware of the strange space beneath the stairs before he purchased the property. However, he didn’t know what was inside. “I kind of knew there was this void underneath the stairs that had been plaster-boarded up. There was a wire coming out where the previous owners had the fridge but I didn’t know where the wire was plugged in so I knocked through a bit of the plasterboard to see what was there. I knocked through a hole about the size of a fist, shone a light in and there was a doll just sitting there.”
It’s creepy enough to find a strange rag doll in the wall of your home. But this one came with a letter for Lewis. It read as follows:
“Dear Reader / New Owner: Thank you for setting me free! My name is Emily. My original owners lived in this house in 1961. I didn’t like them, so they had to leave. All they did was sing and have fun. It was disgusting. Stabbing was my choice of death for them, so I hope you have knives. I hope you sleep well”.
However, Lewis debunked this note pretty easily. “The letter says 1961 but the estate agent said when she was showing me around that the kitchen was only done four or five years ago. I think it must have been put there then because the paper doesn’t look very old and looks relatively recent.“
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem like the beginning of a horror story. Well, it’s fortunate for Lewis. Nevertheless, some people think he should steer clear of the creepy doll. “Some of my friends have told me to put my house back on the market and move out but I think it’s just a laugh. I’ll be honest, I found the whole thing hilarious. I’d probably do the exact same thing.” [1]

Doll in the Wall
However, another creepy doll appeared in a wall of a different home. One woman found the face of a doll stuck in the cement in her basement. Her sister, who goes by “The Only Living Dead Girl in New York” on Twitter posted the harrowing photos. Her post now has over 40 thousand retweets and 516 thousand likes. [2]
The comments section was filled with horrified reactions. To these, the Twitter user joked, “Thanks everyone for your overwhelming response to my sister’s new baby.” Nevertheless, many people remained convinced her sister should get out of that home as soon as possible. As one commenter wrote, “I hope you had a nice life with your sister because she might be in the wall next… I’m just saying tho…”

A Truly Haunted Doll?
This doll wasn’t found in a new home or in a wall. It was bought for cheap at a second-hand shop — another horror story cliche. The owner, Debbie Merrick lives in England and now with a potentially demented doll.
“I don’t know why I decided to buy the dolls,” said Merrick who bought a few together that day. “...They were really cheap, they were only £5 I think, and I thought they would probably be worth quite a bit of money. It’s really just the one doll with the white dress I don’t like. I didn’t particularly even like touching that one when I bought it…
“The smoke alarms keep going off, and one night I heard the floorboards creaking and thought it might have been my daughter Holly up, but when I checked on her she was asleep. Then one morning my husband said to me, ‘I’ve got scratches all over my legs.’ It definitely hadn’t happened before. They looked a bit like cat scratches and were sore.“
While Merrick believes the doll is to blame for these incidents but her husband does not. “My husband is a complete non-believer. He’s still trying to come up with an explanation.”
Now the doll remains trapped in a box in a shed. When the owner last opened the box, the doll lay in a different position with its necklace taken off. That was the last straw. Merrick listed the doll on eBay and wants it gone. “There could be something in the doll. I believe things can attach to items – that’s why I have no old furniture in my house.” [3]
