Boy Insists He Has an Identical Twin in Class — Mom Gets a Photo of Them Together from the Teacher

A couple of years ago, two little boys were responsible for melting the hearts of their parents and teachers, along with the entire internet. One of them had been telling his mom about his apparent doppelgänger, or identical twin as he called it. At a “twin day” event at their school, the two got dressed in matching clothes to reiterate their twinning status. A picture of them was sent to their moms, who couldn’t resist posting it online.

A Tiffy Taffy Highlight Story: Sometimes, there are stories that are just too good, too beautiful, or too unbelievable to keep locked away. That’s why we scour the archives and bring some of them back to enjoy again. They may make you smile or shed a tear, but they’re always meant to add a little positivity to your day. This story is from November 2019. Enjoy!

Identical twins just for one day

Two years ago, Britney Tankersley was gearing herself up for a trip to Walmart after finding out about a twin-day event at her son’s school. Her son, Myles, had been telling her about a friend he made at school who apparently looked just like him. Myles wanted to be twins for the day with his friend and begged his mother to buy them matching outfits. In other words, he wanted to make their twin status seem more legit.

In an interview with TODAY, Britney said: “He went on and on about how they looked exactly the same. ‘We both have brown eyes, we both have dark hair,’ and he was just adamant.” Britney was drained by the idea of going to Walmart, but she put on her brave face for Myles. After scouring the school’ directory, she found the friend’s mom’s number to get his clothing size.

Then, Britney picked up two matching shirts with the inscription: “Future leaders” above the pocket. She described them as “the only decent shirts” left in both their sizes. “So, I head to Walmart and I’m like, irritated. I’m like, this is too late. I’m too old for this,” said Britney.

The big reveal

Britney had not met her son’s so-called identical twin before the big twin day. When she dropped Myles off, she asked the teacher to take a photo of the two of them together so she could see what he looked like in reality. When she received the picture, she saw two completely different boys.

“I was basically crying because it was so sweet,” Britney said. “Obviously, I know that they don’t look alike at all. But he didn’t see that, you know? I expect to get a picture of another white child with light skin and brown hair, whatever, but I didn’t get that at all. And I said ‘That is the sweetest thing in the whole world.'”

Identical twins gone viral

Britney posted the picture to her Facebook account, and it gained a lot of attention. Since then, it has been shared over 275 thousand times, liked over 500 thousand times, and there are 50 thousand comments. Each on is gushing over the boy’s cuteness. “It’s so crazy,” she said, referring to the posts viral status. “My objective is never to be in the spotlight, but I think the message is more important than how much it exploded.”

One person commented: “Wow, Only out of the mouths of Babes. It is sad knowing our children are taught or trained to discriminate. We are their teachers of life. They are sponges thirsty for knowledge. Good Job little man. You have some pretty awesome parents!” Another person wrote: “We should all be like that! This world would be a much better place!”

The experience humbled Britney, who had not expected to see two completely different boys in the picture. Even though many kids pretend to be identical twins for twin day, their teachers confirmed their pairing was unique. “All the teachers at school are so excited,” said Britney. “There’s always a lot of kids that dress up that don’t look alike, but this was unique. I was kind of put in my place because I was expecting to see something totally different, and that’s not what it was at all.”
