Tina Turner says she wished she took better care of her kidneys

Tina Turner was a woman who turned heads. Since the dawn of her career with Ike Turner, she has made a name for herself. Even those who are not such fans of her music have high respect for her as a musician and a performer. After her recent death, Tina’s health has gone under speculation. Her high blood pressure was a sure risk, and her kidneys allegedly paid the price. Tina had taken to Instagram two months before she passed to explain how she wished she had taken better care of herself when she had the time to do so.

Tina Turner Warns About Treating Your Kidneys Well

Two months ago, the world celebrated World Kidney Day. It was a day to highlight the importance of keeping your kidneys healthy and commemorate those who have lost their lives due to kidney failure. Tina Turner underwent a kidney transplant in 2017. Her donor was her beloved second husband, Erwin Bach. He reportedly couldn’t bare the idea of losing her. The surgery saved her life until she passed peacefully last Wednesday in her home in Switzerland. “I was lucky that Erwin offered to donate one of his kidneys to me,” she said.

On March 9th, Tina Turner made a post on Instagram about World Kidney Day. First, she opened up about her failure to realize the need to care for herself. “Today is International World Kidney Day,” she wrote. “Why is it important? Because kidneys fail without pain. And that’s why I’m telling you today: Show your kidneys love! They deserve it. My kidneys are victims of my not realizing that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine. I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.”

Her Health Journey

Tina Turner introduced her involvement in a campaign about kidney health. She left a link for those who wish to know her whole story. “I am therefore delighted to be able to support a new international campaign for kidney health.” wrote Tina. “You can read the whole story of my disease on the website www.showyourkidneyslove.com. Here you can find out how your kidneys work, what the risk factors are, and how you can keep these important organs healthy. Let’s show our kidneys some love!

In 2009, Tina Turner suffered a stroke. This was the first sign of her kidney failure. She was forced to connect herself to a machine for dialysis, as this was her only option for survival. “After suffering a stroke in 2009 because of my poorly controlled hypertension I struggled to get back up on my feet,” she wrote on www.showyourkidneyslove.com. “This is when I first learned that my kidneys didn’t work that well anymore. They had already lost thirty-five percent of their function,” she recounted in the post. “In order to survive, I had to start dialysis. It was my only option, but it was depressing to be connected to a machine for hours. For the next nine months, all my life was about dialysis.”

Obama Paid His Respect to Tina Turner

The extremely well-loved Queen of Rock was, and still is, mourned by millions of people all over the globe. People like America’s ex-president, Obama, have taken to the internet to share his respect and deepest condolences for her passing. “Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was unapologetically herself – speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy,” Obama wrote. “Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade.”
