‘Teeth Nails’ Are The New Fashion Trend And I’m Creeped Out To Say The Least

Nail artists have no cap on their creativity. They push the limits to what fingernails could look like, from crazy shapes and colors to designs with glitter, aluminum foil, gradients, and even geometric shapes. Just when you think they have run out of ideas, “teeth nails” enter the scene. Russian nail artist Nail Sunny on Instagram invented a manicure that makes fingernails look like molars. The creepy yet intriguing nail art has gone viral.

To create the shape of teeth, Nail Sunny used a brush to shape the acrylic nail. For those who are familiar with acrylic nails, this process is used all the time. But this time, instead of shaping the acrylic into nails, she shaped them into teeth. As she painted and polish the “molars,” you could almost imagine the teeth were real and getting a cleaning at the dentist.

However, if you are on top of crazy nail art trends, teeth may not even raise your eyebrows. Not after furry nails, bubble nails, and nails so long and curly you just wonder how the wearer functions with them. But despite the popularity of crazy nails, Rita Remark, lead educator of nail polish brand Essie, doesn’t think that many people will rush to get teeth nails.

In my opinion, trends like these are meant purely for entertainment,” she said. “Do I find them funny? Absolutely! I even appreciate the skill required to create these mini sculptures and polished paintings. However, would I recommend trying them yourself? Definitely not.” [1]

Crazy Nails in the Name of Art

Social media allows these artists to create stunning and wacky designs for their audience. They don’t have to sell the designs to manicure shops; their purpose is to entertain their following. So artists are allowed to be as creative as they like. “In any art form, people are going to want to push the medium and do wild and zany things,” said Remark. “Designs like these are never really wearable, but they’re great for conversation!”

Plus, teeth nails may be a great addition to a Halloween costume. While the artistry displayed is undeniable, many people find the look very off-putting — even sickening.

These are the most ridiculous I have seen in a while!!” reads one comment. “Good lord why??!!!!? That is all I can say!!??!?”

Yet some like the idea, for perhaps more creative reasons. Such as making the phrase “eating with your fingers” literal. “When I am old, I will get those and then I can tap my Steak & Tap it with my fingers until it’s chewed and then I can eat. That will be fantastic.

For those who are looking forward to getting manicures as lockdowns end, here are some less ostentatious trends to try. According to Color Camp co-founder Victoria Caruso, minimalists and maximalists have what to look forward to this season.

For the minimalist,” she said, “white nails are back and we’re not mad about it. We’re seeing opaque shades of white paired with transparent ones to create a simple two-toned look. This subtle contrast of white on milky white is a trend that’s putting us in the mood for summer, even if it means wearing white before Memorial Day.

For the maximalist, we’re going to see a continuation of bright and bold colors as well as mix-and-match nail art. 90s trends were so popular this winter with clouds, daisies, and smiley face nail art. Now we’re seeing a lot of people combine these bold looks into one. It’s fun and playful, and is the perfect look for when you just can’t pick one design.”

Additionally, beauty YouTuber and influencer Kathleen Fuentes (also known as KathleenLights) shares her favorite nail trends for spring and summer. “Fun rainbow manicures to geometric nail art and spring florals. I’m loving the golden shimmers paired with soft creamsicle looks.[2]

Although white and light colors may be in style, not many people are going to go out with teeth nails — probably for the best.
