Cool Cloud Lamp That Creates A Life-Like Thunderstorm Inside Your Home

Here’s a cool gadget to add to your shopping list: the amazing cloud lamp that creates a super realistic thunderstorm inside any room in your home.

This is undoubtedly one of the coolest things you’ll see today, a man-made, totally portable thunderstorm maker. This wonderful device is called the Cloud Lamp! The best part is that the cloud lamp is not just super cool, it’s also 100% functional and you’ll love this oddly soothing device for a long time to come.

Have you ever found it difficult sleeping at night? Many people have insomnia, a condition characterized by the inability to get to sleep or sleep well at night. This is usually stress-related but may also be caused by jet lag, a health condition, the medications you take, or even the amount of coffee you drink. [1]

To help people sleep better at night, Richard Clarkson, Brooklyn-based art & design lab has created a lamp and speaker system called The Cloud, that replicates the experience of being of a gentle thunderstorm in the comfort of your home, minus actual rain of course. The effects include the soothing sounds of heavy rain and rolling thunder, plus flashes of lightning.

The Cloud Lamp capitalizes on the effect that a thunderstorm can have on individuals. This real cloud lamp creates a gentle thunderstorm right in your bedroom.

Sleeping troubles

It is perfectly normal to experience trouble sleeping at one time or another. It’s actually more difficult than you might think to hit the “quiet” button in your brain and slide into sleep at night. However, if this is a regular occurrence or it interferes with your daily life, you may be suffering from a sleep disorder.

Sleep disorders can affect your overall health and quality of life. It can affect your ability to drive safely and increase the risk of other health problems.

Symptoms can differ depending on the severity and type of sleeping disorder but general symptoms of sleep disorders include: [2]

  • daytime fatigue
  • difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • lack of concentration
  • falling asleep or taking naps during the day
  • anxiety or irritability
  • weight gain
  • impaired work or school performance

Unfortunately, insomnia is extremely common in the United States as approximately 50 percent of American adults experience it at some point in their lives. The disorder is most prevalent among older adults and women.

Need some help sleeping?

Although some people say rain and thunderstorms help them sleep better there is little definitive research showing that bad weather/gloomy days help people sleep better. While there’s some evidence that cloudy/rainy weather can make us sleepy, this doesn’t necessarily translate to better sleep. Bad weather aside, there is some evidence that the sound of water does help, and no, it’s not white noise, but that helps too.

The rhythmic sound of rain is also comforting as the pitter-patter of raindrops hitting surfaces falls under the range of sound known as “pink noise.”

Pink noise is a category of background noise ranging from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz that, like white noise, has all of the frequencies that humans can hear. However, unlike white noise, which has the same volume at every frequency, pink noise has lower volumes at higher frequencies. [3]

According to some research, pink noise may improve the quality of our sleep by decreasing our brain activity. Based on these facts, the Richard Clarkson Studio designed the Cloud Lamp to mimic thunderstorms using an interactive lamp and speaker system that can be installed in any room in the house.

Presenting the Cloud Lamp

The Cloud Lamp is made from hypoallergenic fiberfill and features a nightlight and music reactive mode. It is packed with full-motion sensors, microphones, and a speaker system that detect your presence via sensors and releases unique lighting and thunders as you move around.

Users have full control over their cloud, they can control the sounds, sensitivity, and reactions to certain movements – all they need is a wireless remote. The cloud comes with a special LED light that mimics lightning and thunder, you can also customize the color and the brightness of your lighting.

Users of the Cloud Lamp can also use the high-quality speaker to stream music through any Bluetooth-compatible device. The upside is that these lamps are well-made, functional, and beautiful-looking pieces that blend into your home as art. The downside is that these intricate Cloud Lamps are definitely on the pricier side, you can get your very own thunderstorm machine for $3,300.

If this is too much, you can get the non-interactive model for $960. You can easily purchase the cloud lamp here

The Richard Clarkson Studio has also developed numerous other cloud light designs like the cloud shade and the cloud stand.
