A Tiffy Taffy Highlight Story: Sometimes there are stories that are just too good, too beautiful, or too unbelievable to keep locked away. That’s why we scour the archives and bring some of them back to enjoy again. They may make you smile or shed a tear, but they’re always meant to add a little positivity to your day. This story is from January 2021. Enjoy!
A deliveryman from Pizza Hut received such a huge tip, that it definitely changed their life. On average most delivery staff get in the range of 10-15% tip, but this man received a car. Robert Peters, the lucky deliveryman from Indiana said, “I couldn’t believe it, it’s almost like it’s surreal.” The deliveryman had been delivering pizzas for close to 31 years.
Although the pizza chain mentioned that Peters was one of their oldest employees, Peters didn’t think it was something that one should aspire to be. He further stated, “There were people in my family that were like, ‘Maybe you should consider something a little more financially stable.’ But it’s my purpose in life- trying to make people happy. You know, when you’re delivering to somebody, you may be the only face they see all day.” One can almost assume that it was this very attitude that led this deliveryman to his shining reputation in the town of Tipton.
Tanner Langley was one of Peter’s best customers. He spoke about how Peters would make sure that everyone received their appropriate change. “He’ll drive 3 or 4 miles down the road in a blizzard just to bring you 15 cents in change.” Although 15 cents wasn’t a lot, the principal behind it was. “It’s the moral of it. He didn’t want you to feel like you had to tip him because he didn’t have the change.”
After years of such devotion, Tanner decided that something needed to be done. So he reached out to the community and asked them to pitch in for a gift for Peters. And the best gift that they could give this deliveryman was a brand-new Chevy Malibu. The people pitched in with $19,000- which also handled the gas money, as well as the insurance.

Not the Only Top Notch Deliveryman
This wouldn’t be the first time that a pizza delivery man was praised for his devotion to his service. There was another pizza chain- Papa John’s- which served as a favorite in a small town. But, one needs to remember that the chain was famous not only for its Pizza but also for a single delivery man.
In fact, there have been times that a particular family ordered pizza from the chain so that they could meet with Newey- the delivery guy. The family would also record their interactions for their TikTok account. And considering they have over 53k followers on the social media platform, one could guess that the interactions were also appreciated by their followers. Despite that, the only fact that pricked them and their followers were that Newey was 89 years old. There was absolutely no reason for such an old man to still be delivering pizzas. Therefore, the Valdez family decided to do something for him in September 2020.
Just like with Peters, the Valdez family managed to raise close to $12,000 for this man. When they reached his small home, they finally got to know his story. Newey lived alone and had to deliver pizzas simply because he couldn’t afford to pay his bills on his social security benefits alone. Needless to say, he was overcome with joy seeing the huge sum of money and could not express his gratitude over his tears.
What Goes Around Comes Around, Including Goodness
In Jan 2020, a Domino’s pizza deliveryman named Nyles Harris received a huge tip. At the time, he was still a student at Northampton Community College but still did his job 5 days a week. His customers know him as the kindest and most modest person. Nevertheless, one of his usual pizza deliveries turned out to be a YouTube celebrity Gabi DeMartino, who has more than 3 million subscribers. When he arrived, Gabi was in the middle of filming a video. She asked him about his day and gave him a tip worth $2,020!
Nyles had a hard time believing it at first. However, even his boss told him to keep the money. He only hoped to find a way to pay it forward someday in the future. For now, though, we know for certain all these pizza deliverymen definitely appreciated the help.
Here’s to all the kind pizza delivery folks out there!
