How Many Watermelons Are In This Picture?

Everyone loves a good puzzle. After all, it’s so satisfying to beat the challenge and come up with the correct answer. Riddles are a great way to boost your cognitive abilities and test your logical reasoning. Plus, they often sharpen math skills. But brain function aside, they are simply fun to try and solve, which is why so many unique challenges go viral. Once again internet users are scratching their heads over this picture with watermelons. #1 How Many Watermelons Are There?

This is a pretty example of food photography but it also holds a visual math riddle. There are four halved watermelons and four watermelons missing a quarter. Therefore, if you could put these watermelons together like a puzzle, how many whole watermelons are in this picture? Careful, fractions could get tricky.

Did you figure it out yet? The answer is: Five! And here’s the equation that proves it:

As you can see in this photo, four watermelon halves created two complete ones, and four watermelons minus a quarter created three complete ones. So that leaves the final answer of five. 

#2 How Many Matches Are There?

If you like visual puzzles, here’s another one for you. How many matches are there? Don’t give your answer too quickly; the solution isn’t as simple as it looks.  Do you have your final answer? Alright, here’s the solution. There are eight matches in the picture. If you counted ten, you included the reflection of the matches on the lighter. Meanwhile, three matches are partially hidden behind the lighter. See this visual for more clarity.

#3 Which Room is the Safest?

If you were fooled by the fractioned watermelons and the reflection of the matches, you may prefer a different sort of riddle. This puzzle is a test of logic, and a bit of out-of-the-box thinking. Read it over and pick the safest death room. Got your room number? Great, the correct answer is room number three. Lions who haven’t eaten in years would no longer be ravenous. They would have perished from starvation, making the room perfectly safe to enter. [1]

#4 Where is the Mouse?

Here’s another kind of puzzle; it’s one for your eyes. How keen is your vision? Could you spot the little mouse peeking over one of the mushroom caps? This picture was created by Gergely Dudás. He has an enjoyable and whimsical art style, but he also challenges people to notice all of the tiny details he hides in every picture. #5 Can You Pick the Right Watermelons?

Here’s another puzzle with math, logic, and watermelons. You must choose three watermelons with numbers on them to create a total of 30. Which watermelons do you choose? You can try different numbers and put them in any order. However, you can’t insert another number; you have to use the ones here. You also can’t eat the watermelons to make the problem disappear.

Frustrated yet? Here’s a tip: Don’t ignore the watermelons; they are actually important to find the answer. Imagine that these numbered watermelons are right in front of you and you could move them however you want.

If you succeeded in calculating the numbers to 30, congratulations. In order to achieve this total, you need to take the watermelon with the 9 on it and turn it upside down. Now the 9 looks like a 6. Therefore, the answer will be 11 + 13 + 6 = 30. [3]
