Fans Call Out Disney and Warner Bros to Publicly Apologize to Johnny Depp

As we are all aware, in 2018 Amber Heard made waves with her Washington Post Op-Ed in which she said she was a “public figure” for victims of domestic violence. In turn, Johnny Depp decided to sue her for defamation of his character. Without even mentioning his name, she indirectly labeled him as a perpetrator of domestic violence, which, in turn, affected his career. Warner Bros and Disney put Johnny on hold for the next sequel of the “Pirates of the Caribbean’‘ and some fans are not happy about that. Some have even called for the production companies to apologize to Depp, and to triple his salary for the movie.

Disney and Warner Bros Doubt Depp’s Character

After the grueling trial, where both parties were cross-examined quite ruthlessly, Johnny Depp won his defamation case. And so, in the end, he has been awarded $10.35 million out of the $50 million he had originally sued her for. Amber was awarded $2million in damages from the original $100 million that she countersued Depp for. Since the case has come to a close, and Johnny has been found not to be an abuser, his fans are asking for things to be set right.

The damage was done when Amber made her statement about being a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. After this, rumors spread that Johnny was not to be in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie and that Margot Robbie would be set to take his place.

An article was released in 2018 that was headlined: “GONE POTTY: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?”

Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of abusing her in a verbal, physical, and sexual manner. Some of her claims are quite intense, saying that Johnny once sexually abused her during a fight, stating that he penetrated her with an alcohol bottle. Johnny has denied each of the claims adamantly, yet his career has been slighted regardless.

The Hollywood Reporter was asked whether or not the Pirates of the Caribbean would manage without Depp as the lead role. And so, the response was: “We want to bring in new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul [Wernick] and Rhett [Reese] is so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.”

Fans Call for Disney and Warner Bros to Apologize to Depp

There are many fans of Depp, and the majority of those who were following the case seemed to have taken his side. Once he won the case, many of them started tweeting their demands for Depp to be apologized to by Disney and Warner Bros.

As such, one person tweeted their opinion: “Johnny Deep won. Disney and Warner Bros must publicly apologize, and put #JohnnyDepp back where he belongs. Everyone knows that no one can play these roles better than him, but he said he will never play Captain Jack again. I will never forgive Amber and Disney.”

Another person expressed how they think Johnny deserves a raise for the whole ordeal. They wrote: “@Disney @DisneyStudios so you guys gonna like publicly apologize to Johnny Depp? So, Maybe tripling his salary to return to #PiratesoftheCaribbean would be a lovely start,”

Another fan wants an apology for Depp. They said: “@Disney I think you owe Captain Jack Sparrow an apology…and be sure to grovel!”

Johnny May Return Disney’s Captain Jack Sparrow

Johnny Depp’s return as the famous pirate seems a little up in the air, with some mixed messaging. Earlier in May when speaking to The Sunday Times, Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that they are working on two scripts, one that features actress Margot Robbie and one that doesn’t.

However, in more recent news a former Disney executive predicts that Johnny Depp could one day return to Pirates of the Caribbean as Jack Sparrow.

“I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,” the former exec told PEOPLE in an exclusive. “There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.
