Lesbian Couple Adopts 3 Brothers

This loving story takes place in 2013, Massachusetts, when KC and Lena Currie got officially got married. Afterwards, they both decided that it was time to start a family. Their lives changed when they were attending an event hosted by the Children’s Friend in Worcester. They had met Joey who was 18 months old at the time and immediately fell in love. After about a year in the month of March, Joey was officially apart of their family. (1)

We saw a picture of Joey and Children’s Friend mentioned [it] would be a good match.” Explains Lena. (1)

After Joey had turned 3, KC and Lena had received a phone call from Children’s Friend again with interesting news. They apparently had Joey’s little brother, Noah, who was only 6 weeks old was happily accepted by the Currie’s. It only took about a month for them to finalize the adoption for Noah. The family felt even more complete now with Noah being reunited with his older brother.

Three Blood-Related Brothers

To their surprise, Children’s Friend had given the Currie’s yet another phone call. This time it was about Logan, who just happen to be the middle child of the two brothers they had just adopted. Unfortunately, Logan was suppose to go to a foster family but the plans sadly fell through. Since the Currie’s already had Noah and Joey, they realized just how important it was for them to have all of the brothers together.

KC explains how her and Lena felt about the situation, “It was our gut-feeling. We were going to end up saying yes because keeping the brothers together was really important to us. When they’re older and have questions, they’ll have each other to lean on and experience that ride together.”

For the Currie’s love wasn’t just about to stop with Joey. They knew just how important it is to grow up with your siblings and have that support. Children’s Friend also completely agrees that this was the best decision for the boys.

It’s what you want to see happen. They’re a wonderful family. They’re flexible — they really understand the kids’ needs, the importance of maintaining sibling relationships, and the long-term impact of that.” States Veronica Listerud, director of adoption and family services at Children’s Friend. The Power Of Love

The family couldn’t be happier with all of them together now. KC and Lena are referred to as ‘mommy’ and ‘mama’. For Joey, most of the time it’s ‘mommy-mama’. After having their first holiday together, the Currie’s shared photos of just how happy and loved the boys are.

Now we can start dreaming about grade school, sports, and all those fun things. It was nice to check off a box and make it true to the world. We are their family.” KC explains their excitement for their family.

Both Lena and KC hope that their family’s story will inspire others to adopt kids. Not only leading by example but showing the world just how happy they all are. Despite adversity and other obstacles, they were able to complete their family and reunite three brothers that were divided. Proving that the power of love is strong and worth the extra effort.
