The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case is finally at a close. Johnny’s legal team were happy to announce their victory. This included Camille Vasquez, who has very quickly become an idol in the lives of many young women. She has spoken up on what it means for her to be such an “inspiration.” Camille says it was “worth it,” to be able to motivate young ladies to stay in school.
Camille Vasquez, an Inspiration
Vasquez sat down for an exclusive interview with PEOPLE after the verdict was passed in Johnny Depp’s favor. She helped her client win the defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The result was Amber had to pay $10.35million in damages, and the court awarded Amber $2million.
Camille Vasquez reported that throughout the entire six-week trial period, she had kept herself away from social media. Firstly, she had no idea her fame had grown so quickly. Secondly, she didn’t realize she had become the inspiration her new fans said she was. Vasquez confirmed she: “didn’t know what was happening on social media.” Nonetheless, she said that the response she received was not surprising to her. She said: “I’m not that surprised because I know the facts. I know the evidence and it was clear to me that we were on the right side of this. And I know all of it.”
Vasquez and Chew on Good Morning America
Camille Vasquez made an appearance on Good Morning America, along with Ben Chew. At one point, the anchor, George Stephanopoulos, asked her how she felt about all the attention she was getting on social media. “It’s funny, but also it’s surreal,” she responded. “It’s overwhelming. But, I really believe that to the extent that I could inspire young women to stay in school, work hard and maybe pursue a career in law, then it was all worth it because that’s what’s important at the end of the day.”
Camille Vasquez went on to say that she understands that TikTok, and other social media platforms, have become the norm for communication. “And that’s the new medium for communication and that’s how young people and people in general really communicate and absorb news and become inspired. And so if that’s the forum, so be it.” Nonetheless, Camille was not shy to admit that she is unsure how TikTok works. She said: “I don’t know my way around TikTok.”

Camille Vasquez Explains more on the defamation case
Camille Vasquez has accumulated many fans since she defended Johnny’s name and set the record straight. During her appearance on Good morning America, Stephanopoulos asked her what was their key to victory. “I think the key to victory was focusing on the facts and the evidence, and Johnny’s opportunity to speak the truth for the first time.” answered Camille. “It was six years in the making and I think he was able to connect with the jury and the general public. To tell what really happened in this relationship.”
Next, Stephanopoulos brought up the fact that some people feel that the ruling is a setback for how women are treated in the courtroom. He quoted a statement made by Amber’s spokesperson that read: “It is unseemly as it is unprofessional that Johnny Depp’s legal team has chosen to do a victory lap for setting back decades of how women can be treated in the courtroom.”
Camille Vasquez responded: “I think it’s disappointing. We are only speaking about what happened in this case, right? And, the facts, in this case, were overwhelmingly positive for Johnny, and the verdict speaks for itself.” When Stephanopoulos mentioned that people have mentioned that this case’s ruling is a “blow to the ‘me too’ movement, Camille replied: “We encourage any victim to come forward, domestic violence does not have a gender.”
Camille Denies Relationship with Depp
Vasquez was asked many times if she is involved with Depp, but she denied them adamantly. She labelled the questions as “sexist” remarks. She said in an interview with PEOPLE: “I guess it comes with the territory of being a woman just doing her job. It’s disappointing that certain outlets kind of ran with it or said that my interactions with Johnny — who is a friend and I’ve known and represented for four-and-a-half years now — were in any way inappropriate or unprofessional. That’s disappointing to hear.”
She added: “It’s also an unethical charge being made. It’s sexist.”
