Adult Version Of The Little Tikes Toy Car Is Legal And It Goes Up To 70MPH

Who remembers the awesome red and yellow little tikes toy car? Did you have one growing up? I sure did, and it was such a fun toy to own! The ride-on car had a horn; you could pretend to fill it with fuel and zoom off into the distance with your friends. These days, they even come with really cool add ons, such as a personalized number plate and even a trailer. As a matter of fact, what’s even cooler, is that an adult version of the little tikes toy car was released in 2013. Yes, a real-life car![1]

This awesome childhood favorite has been transformed into a real-life car for adults, thanks to Attitude Autos in the UK. Brothers John and Geof Bitmead and their crew spent around five months building the adult-sized coupe, and it’s completely street legal. After about 1,000 hours, the awesome rebuild was complete. The “Toytown Coupe” was once a Daewoo Matiz before it was completely transformed to look exactly like the little tikes toy car we all love and know.[2]

Coolest little car on the block

Of course, just like the toy version, this little red and yellow car has no windshield. Therefore, it’s probably best not to take it out on a rainy day. The awesome car goes up to 70 mph, unlike the little tikes toy car version, of course. It’s also got airbags, mirrors, and headlights. Unfortunately, it did not quite bring in enough revenue. So, the brothers put the car up for sale for £21,500 on eBay. The car cost £30,000 to build, which means the original would have been sold at a loss.[3] Unfortunately, the car never sold and was taken off the market [4].

We were hoping it would be out on a regular basis, create some revenue and recoup the money used to build it. But in real life it ended up going out four or five times in two years. So we thought we might as well sell it and if anyone’s interested in buying it that will bring back some money for us.

The captivation around their “Big Tike” is down to the design being a “part of people’s childhood and their children’s childhood. They’re amazed to see the real thing on the road. I’ve seen people with tattoos all up their arms walking along the road just cheering at us. There was that kind of response to it. Everybody recognized it. It’s part of our life. We see these things in people’s front gardens, and now you can see it on the road.”
